The Visegrip Viking™ World Record Challenge

Open to all American and International strongmen and grip specialists and part of the Odd Haugen Strength Classic Challenge.  We will feature World Record attempts in all 3 disciplines contested as well as contesting for Official World Championship in Rolling Thunder.  The 4th discipline for purpose of determining the Overall Visegrip Viking Champion will be the Norse Hammers Crucifix Hold.

Overall Visegrip Viking Champion will be determined by the combined score in the 3 grip disciplines plus the Norse Hammers Crucifix Hold.

Scoring:

The score in a Discipline will equal the placement in the contest, i.e. first place finisher receives one (1) point.  If an Athlete pass on a Discipline or fail to get a measurable result in a Discipline, he will receive for example twenty five (25) points (i.e. fails to get one repetition in a Discipline for maximum repetitions, fails to lift the opening weight in a max lift, etc.). Ties for overall shall be broken by lesser bodyweight.  Ties for purpose of determining individual discipline scores score will be shared placings.  Example: Two-way tie for FIRST in a discipline each will receive 1 point, next athlete will receive 3 points; and three way tie for FIRST each will receive 1 points. Overall Visegrip Viking Champion will be determined by the combined score in the 4 grip/hand/wrist related disciplines.

11:30 AM: Discipline II. IronMind Rolling Thunder® World Championship (Grip)

The athletes will each attempt to dead lift with one hand the IronMind Rolling Thunder®, starting weight of 83kg (183lb) and increasing with 5kg each attempt till there is ONE MAN STANDING –The 2016 IronMind Rolling Thunder® World Champion.  Time starts when the implement is loaded, and athletes have 60 seconds to commence the lift.  No grip aids other than chalk allowed. Athlete can use either hand, and must grip the center of the Rolling Thunder handle.  Thumb less or locked thumb grip not allowed. Each athlete must lift the opening weight to be in the competition, but may “pass” on subsequent weights as long as he does so prior to his turn.  The current men’s World Record is 150.5kg (331lb) set by Alexey Tyukalov at the A1 Russian open in Moscow on July 27, 2013. https://www.ironmind.com/certification/rolling-thunder/rules-and-world-records/This discipline counts towards overall score as well as Visegrip Viking Armlifting Championship.

3:15 PM:  Discipline VI.  IronMind Double Overhand Apollon’s Axle™ Deadlift

The athletes (reverse order of entry forms received) will each attempt to deadlift the IronMind Apollon’s Axle™ loaded with standard plates, starting weight will be 170kg/374lb increasing 10kg with each attempt till there is ONE MAN STANDING.  Time starts when Axle is loaded, and athletes have 60 seconds to commence the lift.  No grip aids other than chalk allowed. Athletes must grip axle with knuckles on both facing away from body (double overhand grip). Thumb less or locked thumb grip not allowed.  Otherwise, standard power lifting rules (including Sumo style) apply; resting Axle on the thighs or any downward movement will NOT be allowed.  Athletes must await referee’s down signal before returning the Axle back to the platform all the while maintaining the grip/contact with Axle.  Each athlete must lift the opening weight to be in the competition, but may “pass” on subsequent weights as long as he does so prior to his turn.  5:00PM:  Discipline VIII.  Norse Hammers Crucifix Hold

The athlete will attempt to lift two Norse Hammers each weighing 33lb by the (end of) handles and hold at straight arms in crucifix position for as long as possible.  The time start when athlete has hammers in position vertical handles and arms straight, and ends when athlete can no longer hold the position. This discipline counts towards overall score as well as Visegrip Viking Armlifting Championship.

11:30 AM: Discipline X.  IronMind Captains of Crush® Silver Bullet™

The athlete will attempt to crush and then hold a 19mm CoC Silver Bullet™ between the handles of a No. 3 Captains of Crush (CoC) Gripper and hold it until it falls out or the athlete’s hand opens.  Athlete’s hand must be vertical position (not supinated or pronated), in front of athlete’s body, and clear of athlete’s other hand. A 2.5kg weight (CoC Silver Bullet disc) will be attached to the CoC Silver Bullet and the best time wins.
