The Challenge combines the All American Strongman Challenge, Visegrip Viking Challenge and the Absolute (Open) American MAS Wrestling Championship.  OPEN to all American and International Pro Strongman, Grip and MAS athletes.  American amateur strongman athletes must have demonstrated their ability to compete on this level and be NAS members. Top amateur or any amateur placing in top 3 overall in the Overall Score (8 disciplines) will qualify for ASC Pro Card.  Limit 24 athletes, first come, first served basis.

The athlete with best combined score in Disciplines III (Overhead), V (Yoke), and IX (Deadlift) will get the “Golden Ticket” , the INVITE to 2016 Arnold Strongman Classic!

The Challenge will be contested over ten (10) Disciplines of which only your top 8 results counts towards OVERALL standing and the All American Strongman Honor.  Athletes’ order in the all Disciplines where applicable are determined by reverse order of received entry forms and entry fee, and announced at the Athletes’ Rules Meeting prior to the commencement of the contest.  The order in FINAL Discipline shall be the reverse order of OVERALL standing.   Ties in the overall standing shall be broken by finish in previous Discipline.  If discipline is contested in pairs or groups, the “lane” assignments must be uniformly applied “odd” in left lane, “even” in right lane to the all pairs.  No powerlifting suit allowed in any discipline.  Similarly, an Overall Visegrip Viking Champion will be determined by the combined score in the 4 grip/hand/wrist related disciplines.

Scoring:

Timed Disciplines shall be hand timed, and distances shall be measured by standard measuring tapes or wheel.  The score in a Discipline will equal the placement in the contest, i.e. first place finisher receives one (1) point.  If an Athlete pass on a Discipline or fail to get a measurable result in a Discipline, he will receive for example twenty five (25) points (i.e. fails to get one repetition in a Discipline for maximum repetitions, fails to lift the opening weight in a max lift, etc.). Ties for FIRST, SECOND or THIRD Place in an individual discipline shall be broken by lesser bodyweight, but ONLY for purposes of determining top three Individual Discipline Prize Awards payouts.  Ties for purpose of determining overall score will be shared points.  Example: Two way tie for FIRST in a discipline each will receive 1 ½ points; and three way tie for FIRST each will receive 2 points.   Overall Champion of the Odd Haugen Strength Classic is the athlete with the lowest score in eight (8) best disciplines combinedOverall Visegrip Viking Champion will be determined by the combined score in the 4 grip/hand/wrist related disciplines.

10:15 AM:  Discipline I. Tire Flip and Frame Carry

Athletes will each lift and carry a Giant Frame (~1000lb) 60 feet, multiple set down allowed and then attempt to flip a 1,100lb tire 60 feet (6 flips) within.in 90 second time limit.  Athlete may use lifting straps on the Giant Frame Carry.  This discipline counts towards overall score and Overall Prize Money ONLY.

11:30 AM: Discipline II. IronMind Rolling Thunder® World Championship (Grip)

The athletes will each attempt to dead lift with one hand the IronMind Rolling Thunder®, starting weight of 83kg (183lb) and increasing with 5kg each attempt till there is ONE MAN STANDING –The 2016 IronMind Rolling Thunder® World Champion.  Time starts when the implement is loaded, and athletes have 60 seconds to commence the lift.  No grip aids other than chalk allowed. Athlete can use either hand, and must grip the center of the Rolling Thunder handle.  Thumb less or locked thumb grip not allowed. Each athlete must lift the opening weight to be in the competition, but may “pass” on subsequent weights as long as he does so prior to his turn.  The current men’s World Record is 150.5kg (331lb) set by Alexey Tyukalov at the A1 Russian open in Moscow on July 27, 2013. https://www.ironmind.com/certification/rolling-thunder/rules-and-world-records/.  This discipline counts towards overall score as well as Prize Money this individual discipline.

12:30 NOON: Discipline III. Wild Card Overhead

One of the following disciplines will be randomly drawn on Thursday January 21st:  (i) Log Lift for reps with ~140kg/308lb (ii)Block lift medley (105kg, 115kg, 125kg, 135, 145kg) (iii)Log Press (clean once) for reps with 160kg/351lb (iv)Dumbbell Lift for reps 100kg/220lb (v)The IRON GRIP® Odd Haugen Challenge Dumbbell Medley (see description in NOTE below).  This discipline counts towards Overall score and Overall Prize Money ONLY.

1:00 PM: Discipline IV.  Combat MAS™:  Open American MAS Wrestling Absolute Championship

Athletes will compete in double elimination type tournament based on random draw.  Each match is best two of three bouts.  Points as follows:  Win 2-0 and receive 3 Points; win 2-1 and receive 2 Points; lose 1-2 and receive 1 Point; and lose 0-2 and receive NO Points.  The overall standing is scored identical to all other disciplines contested.  This discipline counts towards overall score as well as Prize Money for American MAS Wrestling Absolute (Open) Championship.

2:30 PM: Discipline V.  Super Yoke Race

The athletes, competing in pairs will each attempt to lift and carry a 415kg/915lb yoke on their shoulders for 120 feet (total) up and back.  Set down only allowed within safety zones.  Furthest or fastest time to complete course wins. The athlete will have 60 seconds time limit to complete course. This discipline counts towards Overall score and Overall Prize Money ONLY.

4:00 PM:  Discipline VI.  IronMind Double Overhand Apollon’s Axle™ Deadlift

The athletes (reverse order of entry forms received) will each attempt to deadlift the IronMind Apollon’s Axle™ loaded with standard plates, starting weight will be 170kg/374lb increasing 10kg with each attempt till there is ONE MAN STANDING.  Time starts when Axle is loaded, and athletes have 60 seconds to commence the lift.  No grip aids other than chalk allowed. Athletes must grip axle with knuckles on both facing away from body (double overhand grip). Thumb less or locked thumb grip not allowed.  Otherwise, standard power lifting rules (including Sumo style) apply; resting Axle on the thighs or any downward movement will NOT be allowed.  Athletes must await referee’s down signal before returning the Axle back to the platform all the while maintaining the grip/contact with Axle.  Each athlete must lift the opening weight to be in the competition, but may “pass” on subsequent weights as long as he does so prior to his turn. 5:00PM:  Discipline VII.  Norse Hammers Crucifix Hold

The athlete will attempt to lift two Norse Hammers each weighing 33lb by the (end of) handles and hold at straight arms in crucifix position for as long as possible.  The time start when athlete has hammers in position vertical handles and arms straight, and ends when athlete can no longer hold the position. This discipline counts towards overall score and Overall Prize Money as well as overall score for Visegrip Viking Champion.

10:15 AM: Discipline VIII.  IronMind Captains of Crush® Silver Bullet™

The athlete will attempt to crush and then hold a 19mm CoC Silver Bullet™  between the handles of a No. 3 Captains of Crush (CoC) Gripper and hold it until it falls out or the athlete’s hand opens.  Athlete’s hand must be vertical position (not supinated or pronated), in front of athlete’s body, and clear of athlete’s other hand. A 2.5kg weight (CoC Silver Bullet disc) will be attached to the CoC Silver Bullet and the best time wins. No grip aids other than chalk allowed.  The current Men’s World Record is 57.15 seconds set by Kody Burns (USA)  set May 2, 2015.  https://www.ironmind.com/certification/coc-silver-bullet/rules-and-world-records/This discipline counts towards overall score as well as Prize Money this individual discipline.

11:30 AM: Discipline IX.  Wild Card Deadlift

One of the following disciplines will be randomly drawn on Thursday January 21st :  (i)Strongman Deadlift Last Man Standing opening weight 300kg/660lb (straps allowed), increase 20kg thereafter (ii)Louis Cyr Barbell for reps increasing weight, starting 300kg increasing 20kg (iii) Viking Fishing Pole Deadlift Last Man Standing stating weight in hand 450lb increase by 50lbs (iv)Axle and Wheels Deadlift for reps with 320kg/705lb (v)Deadlift Medley (TBD). This discipline counts towards Overall score and Overall Prize Money ONLY.

1:00 PM:  Discipline X.  Wild Card Loading Medley Stones of Strength

One of the following disciplines will be randomly drawn on Thursday January 21st:  (i)Stones of Strength,  load 5 stones weighing

from 250 pounds to 430 pounds onto IFSA rings of various heights (ii)Natural Stones, load 5 natural stones to boxes of various

height (iii)Odd Objects, load various objects (log, sand bag, stones, blocks etc.) to boxes of various heights (iv)Sand Bags, carry

and load 4 sand bags progressively heavier, 60 feet, 45 feet , 30 feet and 15 feet (v)Blocks, carry and load 5 aluminum blocks from

230lb to 320lb, 60 feet, 50 feet, 40 feet, 30 feet and 20feet.  This discipline counts towards overall score and Overall Prize Money ONLY.

2:00 PM:  Final Rounds:  Open American MAS Wrestling Absolute Championship (Discipline IV)

Athletes with two losses eliminated, tournament continued till one man standing. This discipline counts towards overall score as well as Prize Money for American MAS Wrestling Absolute (Open) Championship.

3:15 PM:  Award Ceremony

NOTE:

The IRON GRIP® Odd Haugen Challenge Dumbbell Medley

The athlete will attempt to clean and press/jerk overhead various dumbbells, if pair of dumbbells,  clean and press/jerk both at the same time and get 5 points, clean single handed and press/jerk overhead get 2points, clean (two-hands) and press/jerk one at a time (either arm) get 1 point per completed lift:

Pair of 120lbs (5points possible), pair of 140lbs (5points), pair of 160lbs (5points), one 180lb Circus Dumbbell (1points), one 200lbs (2points); and 250lbs Odd E Haugen Challenge Dumbbell (5points). Total of 23 points available. The athlete will have 120 seconds time limit to complete all lifts.  Highest points win.
